Stories from Chris McQueer's bestselling collection Hings have been adapted for the BBC, and will be available on the iPlayer in on 9th May! You’ll get to see Sammy and his battle with the whelks, a grim trip on the night bus and a shift swap go wrong all in front of your very eyes.
The Bag of Whelks story kicks off my first book and it's the one that draws people into my style of writing and dialogue, so it felt right to do it first. Shiftswap, I could see when I was writing it as a short film, really quick cuts and montages. I thought that would be great fun. And Nightbus is fucking disgusting. I just wanted to see how we could recreate that!
Read all about the new adaptations on Glasgow Live’s exclusive interview with Chris.
If you’ve somehow still not read Hings (how behind are you) then fix that by getting your copy ASAP so you’re all clued up before it’s on the telly.
Coming to BBC iPlayer. ‘Impressive’ - Eric Idle | ‘Hilariously surreal’ - Ewan Denny

From the streets of working class Scotland, and on occasion, a little beyond our solar system, comes one of the country's most hilarious debut writers. Putting surreal and witty twists on the everyday, Chris McQueer creates recognisable characters you will love and want to avoid like the plague.
Peter's earned his night off, and there's not a bloody chance he s covering Shelley's shift. He just needs to find some pals for the perfect cover story. Deek is going to be at the forefront of the outsider art movement and do Banksy proud. Davie loves tattoos and his latest is going to be a masterpiece. Tam is one of the most creative minds in the galaxy (apparently), but creating parallel universes can cause problems. Everybody on Earth wakes up with their knees on backwards. Are you ready?
