The 404 Ink Bursary & Crowdfunder has launched!

We’re excited to finally be able to say: the 404 Ink Bursary is open for applications from presses in the UK, and the crowdfunder to raise additional funds for small presses is also live.

We’ve been blown away by the heartfelt responses to our upcoming closure, and it feels a little surreal to already be so far through our final year, but we always said we’d end with one final hurrah to pay it forward.

About the Bursary:

There are two strands of the bursary, one donating £1,000 towards creative projects and helping them come to fruition, and another donating £500 towards hosting an intern and giving newcomers their first step into the industry. 404 Ink are pledging two of each to begin from their own funds. This is open for applications now, alongside a crowdfunder (more information below) to raise further funds.

Crowdfunding further bursaries:

404 Ink has pledged £3,000 to start, and we estimate that we have already funded at least one additional bursary through the donated royalties earned from pre-orders of our upcoming book Publisher Not Found. We are also running a crowdfunder to raise money towards additional bursaries for small presses.

It is funding now: Support the future of small presses on Crowdfunder.co.uk!

As 404 Ink's final campaign, we are keen to see this thrive and want to offer as much tangible and financial support as we can generate for the presses that need it.

Thank you!

It felt only fitting to end our ten years as a publisher by doing one last crowdfunding campaign, but for others instead of our own titles. We might not have been able to keep the light on ourselves, but we hope we can do so for other publishers.

The survival of small presses is under a greater threat than ever before, and their work is vital - any way you are able to support and circulate the Bursary, we are grateful!

It has been an amazing ten years. Thank you for being part of the journey.

- Heather & Laura, 404 Ink
